Contest Rules




PARTICIPATION IS LIMITED TO TRADE PROFESSIONALS (NATURAL PERSONS) and design students who are legal residents of the 50 united states, the district of columbia AND CANADA (excludes residents of all other U.S. territories, commonwealths and possessions, and residents of quebec).



The Dacor National Design Competition (the "Competition" or "Promotion") presented by Dacor, Inc. (the " Sponsor") celebrates innovative kitchen designs and their talented creators. The Competition is comprised of a Professional Design Contest and a Student Design Contest (each a "Contest"). See Rule 1 for specific eligibility requirements applicable to each Contest.

  • The Professional Design Contest will award regional and national prizes to industry trade professionals in both contemporary and traditional kitchen design categories (each a " Category").
    • Regional prizes: A total of 8 regional winners (US Region 1, US Region 2, US Region 3 and Canada) (one per Category in each region), will receive a $10,000 cash prize. See Rule 15 for a state breakdown of the US regions.
    • National prizes: Up to twenty (20) Finalists (ten finalists per Category) will also be determined (these would represent the top 10 Entries in each Category overall, regardless of their region) and will receive a trip to Southern California in October 2020 to attend a Dacor celebration event (the "Event"). The Grand Prize winners from each Category will be announced at the Event and will each receive $30,000 and a trip to Seoul, Korea. In addition the recipient of the Designer's Choice Award will be determined (selected by the 20 finalists) at the Event.
  • The Student Design Contest offers design students an opportunity to win a $10,000 or $5,000 scholarship by submitting a rendering of their original kitchen design.

In the event of a tie at any point during the judging or voting process, a judge determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion will evaluate the tied Entries based on the respective Judging Criteria to break the tie. All decisions of the panel are final. In the event an insufficient number of eligible and qualified Entries are received in any one region and/or Category, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to select an alternate winner from any other region or Category, or to not award a prize. Sponsor and Judges' decisions are final and binding on all matters relating to the Contest.

  1. ELIGIBILITY: The Competition is open to individuals (natural persons) who are legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia or Canada (excluding residents of all other U.S. territories, commonwealths and possessions, and residents of Quebec) who are at least 18 years of age (and age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence). To enter the Professional Design Contest, you must be a kitchen design industry professional (i.e., designer, builder, architect) " Professional;" to enter the Student Design Contest you must be fully matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate course of study primarily focused on design in an accredited college or university as of February 1, 2019 and/or NKBA student members (" Student") (each may be referred to herein as an "Entrant"). Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Dacor, Inc., its affiliates, subsidiaries, promotion agencies, including Cherrybomb Consulting, Inc. and Marden-Kane, Inc., and each of their respective directors, officers, employees and assigns (collectively " Released Parties) and their immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each (whether related or not) are not eligible. For purposes of this Contest, the term "family member" is defined as spouse, partner, parent, legal guardian, in-law, grandparent, child, or grandchild. Also ineligible to participate are any parties who are under any obligation, contractual or otherwise, that would prohibit the Entrant from accepting a Prize/Award. Entries that have previously won an award are eligible to win a prize in this Contest.
  2. AGREEMENT TO THESE OFFICIAL RULES: Participation in this Contest by an Entrant constitutes their full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor's, Judges' and Administrator's decisions which are final and binding in all matters related to this Contest. Selection of Winners is subject to verification of eligibility as noted herein and receipt of a Prize/Award is contingent upon fulfilling all applicable requirements set forth herein.
  3. ENTRY PERIOD : Entry submission into the Contest begins at 12:00:01 AM Pacific Time ("PT") on February 14, 2019 and ends July 31, 2020 at 11:59:59 PM PT (the "Entry Period"). The Administrator's clock is the official timekeeping device for this Contest.
  4. HERE'S HOW to enter: Beginning February 14, 2019, visit to register for the Competition and follow the instructions to submit your Entry. You will need to register for either the Professional Contest or the Student Contest. All Entries must be submitted via (the "Contest Site") and must comply with all Requirements, Conditions of Entry and the instructions set forth on the Contest Site (which are incorporated herein by reference). Determination of compliance will be in the sole discretion of the Sponsor/Judges/Administrator, whose decisions are final.

    Professional Design Contest Requirements. Once registered, follow the instructions to submit your completed kitchen design project ("Entry") into either the Contemporary or Traditional Category.


    Student Design Contest Requirements. Once registered, follow the instructions to submit your completed kitchen design ("Entry").


    Sponsor or Administrator reserves the right to disqualify any Entry for any reason, in its sole and absolute discretion, including the determination that an Entry fails to satisfy any of the Entry Requirements, Conditions of Entry, or is inconsistent with the goals, image, or policies of the Sponsor. Any Entry not submitted in accordance with the instructions provided on the Contest Site (which are incorporated herein by reference) shall not be considered for the Contest, and none of the Released Parties shall bear any responsibility for any such invalid/incomplete entries.

    • A Contemporary kitchen design borrows high functionality and streamlined surfaces from the modernist design movement, but its style often incorporates traditional ideas as well for a sleek and livable feel.
    • A Traditional kitchen design includes several design elements of warm colors and symmetrical lines. It incorporates design elements from a variety of centuries, which allows homeowners to feel comfortable and elegant at the same time.
    • Entry must be complete and contain all required supporting information and details, along with required design project imagery/photographs.
    • Entry must meet national code requirements and restrictions.
    • Entry must consist of a kitchen project that was completed between January 1, 2018 and July 31, 2020.
    • Entry must be a kitchen design of a private, residential space only. Showroom, retail, commercial, hospitality, public recreational, educational and other non-residential environments are not eligible.
    • At least one Dacor full-size built-in or integrated refrigeration product and at least one Dacor primary cooking appliance for the residence must be featured in the design.
    • Dacor products must be current models dating from January 2017 to present.
    • Entry must include a complete list of Dacor products included in the design.
    • At least three (3) but no more than ten (10) color photographs of the finished design must be submitted with your Entry. Dacor products must be easily identifiable.
    • Photos should not exceed 2,400 pixels in width or 1,600 pixels in height at 72 dpi resolution, jpg format. Note: If you are selected as a finalist, higher resolution versions may be requested. 
    • Photos accepted file formats: JPG or JPEG.
    • Photos should be single dynamic images; no collages (a collage is an image that is created from more than 1 image).
    • Digital floor plan/elevation files (minimum of two (2); one (1) must be a floor plan) in PDF, JPG or JPEG.
    • Do not include any text or logos on images/photos.
    • Upload a one page narrative describing the design details, colors, inspiration, materials and anything else you would like to include.
    • Entrants may submit multiple Entries, but each Entry must be unique.
    • The Contest’s Student Contest is open to students who as of February 1, 2019 are currently enrolled at an accredited college or university and/or are NKBA student members.
    • Entry must be completed by an individual student, not by a team of students. No co-designers are permitted
    • Let your imagination be your guide in designing a functional and beautiful space for a hypothetical client. Contestants are encouraged to create an indoor kitchen with a minimum of 150 square feet and a budget of $150,000. Please provide interesting details about the hypothetical client and any unique situations or design challenges encountered.
    • Student entries must include a rendered kitchen with all of the following:
      1. At least one Dacor refrigeration unit.
      2. At least one Dacor cooking appliance as primary food preparation unit. Ranges, range tops, ovens, cooktops and two or more modules meet this requirement; ventilation, microwave ovens and warming drawers do not.
    • Upload a one page narrative (pdf format) describing the design details, colors, inspiration, materials and anything else you would like to include.
    • Limit one Entry per Student Entrant.
    • Entry must be received by 11:59:59 PM PT on July 31, 2020.
    • Entry must be submitted in English. Entries submitted in any other language will be disqualified.
    • Entry must be original and must not contain any advertisement or solicitation.
    • Content submitted must not contain any material that may, in the sole judgment of Sponsor or Administrator, infringe on the intellectual property rights of any third party (e.g., Entrant must have copyrights to any submitted photos; if Entrant is not the owner/photographer of the submitted photos, Entrant must obtain the written consent of the owner/photographer to submit such materials into the Contest.
    • Content submitted cannot communicate messages inconsistent with the messages, policies, and/or goodwill with which the Sponsor wishes to associate, as determined in the sole discretion of the Sponsor.
    • Content submitted cannot contain material or any element that is unlawful, or otherwise violate any applicable federal, state, and/or local laws, rules or regulations.
    • Entry must not contain confidential/trade secrets or proprietary information or violate the terms of your employment.
    • By entering, Entrant represents and warrants that (i) he/she has obtained all of the necessary rights, licenses, and permissions from any person who may have helped or participated in the creation of the Entry; (ii) that the Entrant has the right/permission to agree to these Official Rules and to grant the rights referred to in these Official Rules (free from any encumbrances and/or third-party rights); (iii) that the Entry conforms to these Official Rules, the requirements of the Contest Site and is not subject to any third party agreement(s); and (iv) that the Sponsor or its agencies will not be required to pay or incur any sums to any person or entity, including without limitation, any copyright collecting societies or holders of copyrights, neighboring rights, or moral rights, or to persons representing such, as a result of Sponsor's (or it's agent's) use or exploitation of Entry materials or rights therein.
    • By entering, Entrant represents and warrants that he/she has obtained appropriate consent from the project owner for use of the design and any information included in the Entry that may be proprietary to such project owner or any third-party prior to submitting the Entry, and if requested by the Sponsor or Administrator, be able to provide appropriate permission and releases.
    • By entering, Entrant expressly grants Sponsor certain rights to use the Entry in marketing and promotion.
    • By entering, Entrant acknowledges compliance with these Official Rules including all Conditions of Entry.
    • Entrant acknowledges that Entry may be posted in an online gallery at and that an Entry may be removed by Sponsor at any time, for any reason. Posting of an Entry in the online gallery will have no bearing on winner determination.
    • Professional Design Contest Entrants acknowledge that by entering, their businesses may be added to the designer locator on
  5. JUDGING AND WINNER DETERMINATION : All judging will be conducted by a panel of experts consisting of members of The Design Council and Dacor industry professionals. Judging will be based on the judging criteria as outlined below (“Judging Criteria”).
    1. Professional Design Contest - Regional: Eligible Entries received will be judged to determine one (1) winner in the Contemporary Category and one (1) winner in the Traditional Category in each of the four (4) regions. Each Regional winner will receive $10,000.
    2. Professional Design Contest – National: All eligible Entries received will be judged to determine up to ten (10) Finalists in the Contemporary Category and ten (10) Finalists in the Traditional Category (total not to exceed 20). The Finalist with the highest score in each respective Category will be deemed a Grand prize winner. The Finalist with the second highest score in each respective Category will be deemed a Runner-up winner. The Grand Prize winners and Runner-up winners will be announced at a Dacor celebration event in October 2020.

      Judging Criteria for Professional Entries: The Contest will be judged by the Dacor Design Council, a group of award winning professionals from the architectural, interior design and kitchen design disciplines, along with senior Dacor leadership. The panel of judges will evaluate all qualifying entries based on the following three criteria:

      • 50% - Best function and aesthetic use of Dacor brand appliances
      • 25% - Aesthetically-pleasing overall kitchen design
      • 25% - Functionality of overall kitchen design
    3. Designer’s Choice: During the Dacor Celebration Event, Finalists will have the opportunity to vote for the Finalist Entry which best exhibits the above judging criteria. The Designer’s Choice will be awarded to the Finalist receiving the most votes. In the event the vote results in the Designer’s Choice being the same Entry as a Grand Prize winner, the Finalist with the next highest number of votes will be deemed the Designer’s Choice
    4. Student Design Contest - All eligible Student Entries received will be judged to determine one First Place winner and one Runner-Up. The panel of judges will evaluate all qualifying entries based on the following three criteria:
      • 50% - Best function and aesthetic use of Dacor brand appliances
      • 25% - Aesthetically-pleasing overall kitchen design
      • 25% - Functionality of overall kitchen design

  6. NOTIFICATION AND VERIFICATION PROCESS: All Finalists and potential winners will be notified on or about August 28, 2020 and will be required to complete and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability Release and where legal, a Publicity Release within seven (7) days (including Saturday, Sunday and Holidays) of attempted delivery of same. Noncompliance within this time period or return of any prize/prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification without further notice and an alternate winner may be selected, time permitting. Finalists/potential winners may be required to provide additional documentation in order to validate eligibility and/or execute additional documentation with regard to the use of the Entry materials, at Sponsor's sole discretion. For trip prizes, winner's traveling companion must be legal age of majority in his/her jurisdiction of residence and will be required to complete and return a Release of Liability. If it is determined that any Entry has not complied with these Official Rules, potential winner has failed to properly execute and return any required documents within the specified time period, or has made false statements, or if a potential winner declines the prize, then such Entry will be disqualified and the Entry with the next highest-score will be notified, time permitting. Administrator/Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any potential winner/Finalist at any time, in their sole discretion, in the event circumstances arise that would constitute a breach of these Official Rules or otherwise.
  7. PRIZES AND APPROXIMATE RETAIL VALUES (USD): The following prizes are available to be won:

    (8) Regional Prizes - One per Category (Contemporary, Traditional) per Region (US Regions 1, 2, 3 and Canada) - USD $10,000 each.


    (20) Finalist Prizes - Ten per Category (10/Contemporary, 10/Traditional) - each Finalist will receive a 3-day/2-night trip for the winner and one guest to Southern California, USA to attend a Dacor celebration event in/about October 2020. Prize includes round-trip coach air transportation from major airport nearest the winner's home, 2 nights' hotel accommodations, one room/double occupancy, and a $500 spending stipend for the Finalist. Total approximate retail value (ARV) of each Finalist prize is USD $2,500.

    1. Grand Prize-Contemporary , (1) Grand Prize-Traditional and (1) Designer's Choice Award - Each Grand Prize and the Designer’s Choice Award will consist of a 3-night trip for the winner and one guest to Seoul, Korea. Prize includes round-trip coach air transportation from major airport nearest the winner’s home, 3 nights’ hotel accommodations, one room/double occupancy, and a tour of the Samsung Design House with the Dacor Design Team. Each Grand Prize winner and the Designer’s Choice will also receive USD $30,000. Total approximate retail value (ARV) USD $45,000 each.
    2. Runner-Up Prize-Contemporary - USD $10,000.
    3. Runner-Up Prize-Traditional - USD $10,000.

    Student Design Contest Prizes

    1. First Prize - a $10,000 scholarship, awarded to the winner in the form of a check.
    2. Runner-Up Prize - a $5,000 scholarship, awarded to the winner in the form of a check.


    Winner(s) of travel prizes are solely responsible for all other expenses including but not limited to luggage fees, travel documents, travel insurance, incidentals and items of a personal nature, gratuities, and any other expenses not specified in these Official Rules. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, mutilated or stolen travel documents. Travelers must possess required travel documents (e.g., government-issued photo ID, passport, visa etc.) prior to travel. Prize may be forfeited if (a) proper travel documents for any and all travel are unattainable for any reason within the time required by the Sponsor, or (b) if any immigration or travel documentation complications arise which prohibit a winner from traveling to, or from the stated destination. In the latter event, winner will be solely responsible for arranging and paying for travel back to their point of origin. Winners are solely responsible for determining and complying with all applicable international/domestic travel procedures and restrictions. Specifics of travel prize are subject to availability and remain solely at the discretion of the Sponsor. Travel must be made through the Sponsor's agent on a carrier of Sponsor's choice and is subject to availability. If any winner is unable to travel after trip is booked for any reason, no compensation or substitution will be provided in lieu thereof and Sponsor will have no further obligation to such winner.

    Student Design Contest prize checks will be mailed to winners at the address provided on their Affidavit of Eligibility within 60 days of winner verification.

    FOR ALL PRIZES/AWARDS : All prize values stated in US Dollars (USD). Details of any prize not specified herein are at the Sponsor's sole discretion and complete terms and conditions of prizes will be disclosed to the winner at time of prize award. Sponsor will not be responsible for any portion of a prize that may not be available due to any event beyond Sponsor's control.

    All prize values are based on the US Dollar (USD). All costs and expenses associated with prize acceptance and use not specified herein are the sole responsibility of the Winners. All federal, state, local, provincial and other tax liabilities (including income and withholding taxes) and any other taxes in connection with receipt of a Prize will be the responsibility of the winner. The actual value of the trip portion of a Prize may vary based on airfare fluctuations and point of departure. Winners are not entitled to any difference between the ARV stated herein and the actual value of the prize at the time the prize is awarded. No transfer or substitution of Prize by winner permitted. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a Prize in whole or in part, of equal or greater value, if such Prize cannot be awarded.

  8. GENERAL CONDITIONS: All federal, state, provincial and local laws and regulations apply. All submitted information is subject to verification. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of an Entrant, the Entry will be deemed to have been made by the registered account holder of the e-mail address provided at time of registration. A registered account holder is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. If a dispute cannot be resolved to Sponsor's satisfaction, the Entry in question may be disqualified in Sponsor's sole discretion. By participating in this Contest, Entrants agree to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules.
  9. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Entrants producing and submitting materials for consideration in this Contest will do so without compensation and at their own risk. By entering, Entrants release, discharge and hold harmless Released Parties from any and all liability or any injuries, loss or damage of any kind (including damages caused or claimed to be caused) arising from or in connection with this Contest, the use of any Contest Entry, or the acceptance or use of any Prize/Award. Released Parties are not responsible or liable for any of the following: (a) Electronic transmissions, Entries that are late, incomplete, inaudible, illegible, damaged, garbled, destroyed, misdirected or not received by Sponsor or its agents for any reason; (b) Any problems or technical malfunctions, errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects, delays in operation or transmission, communication failures and/or human error that may occur in the transmission, receipt or processing of Entries or related materials; or for destruction of or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, Entries or related material; (c) Failed or unavailable hardware, network, software or telephone transmissions, damage to any person's computer and/or its contents related to or resulting from participation in this Contest, or (d) Causes beyond Sponsor's reasonable control that jeopardize the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest; (e) Any printing errors in these Official Rules, the Contest Site, or in any advertisements, materials, or correspondence in connection with this Contest; or (f) any copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or other intellectual property misappropriation or infringement attributable to Entrant or any Entry submitted. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend this Contest should virus, bugs, fraud, hacking, or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the Contest, or if other causes beyond the control of the Sponsor corrupt the administration of security of the Contest. In such cases, notice to this effect will be posted on the Contest Site and the eligible Entries received prior to cancellation, modification, or suspension or as otherwise deemed fair and appropriate by Sponsor will be judged to determine winners. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
  10. OWNERSHIP OF ENTRY/GRANT OF RIGHTS: The Entrant (and if applicable, his/her affiliated organization/firm) will retain ownership of all intellectual and industry property rights in all materials submitted to the Contest. However, by submitting an Entry, Entrant waives all rights that may preclude Sponsor from using Entry and related materials or information. Submission of an Entry grants Sponsor and its agencies, to the extent allowed by law, the irrevocable right to use, publish, adapt, assign, edit, dispose of, and/or modify such Entry and the concepts embodied therein in any way, in commerce and in any and all media worldwide, without limitation or compensation to the Entrant or anyone associated with the Entry, including Entrant's affiliated organization/firm. Acceptance of a Prize/Award constitutes permission for the Sponsor and its designees to use the winner's name, voice, actual or simulated likeness, Entry and biographical information along with the information contained in their Entry (including, without limitation, for advertising and promotional purposes) in perpetuity, throughout the universe, in all media whether now known or hereafter devised, without further review, notice, approval or compensation unless prohibited by law.
  11. GOVERNING LAW/JURISDICTION: Unless the laws relevant for the domicile of the Entrant/Entrant's firm/organization/provide otherwise, all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules or the rights and obligations of participants or Sponsor in connection with the Competition shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California (and to the extent controlling, the federal laws of the United States of America) without reference to the conflicts-of-laws rules thereof. Claims may not be resolved through any form of class action. By entering the Contest, each Entrant submits to the jurisdiction of those courts and waives any objection to those courts, whether on the basis of jurisdiction, venue, inconvenience of the forum, or otherwise. Winners agree to abide by the income reporting and, if applicable, the payment of any taxes due per the laws, rules and regulations of the winner's country of residence. By entering and participating in the Contest, Entrants hereby expressly agree and accept that for all that is related to the interpretation, performance and enforcement of these Official Rules, each of them expressly submit themselves to the laws of the United States of America and to the jurisdiction of the competent courts in the County of Los Angeles, in the State of California, United States of America, expressly waiving to any other jurisdiction that could correspond to them by virtue of their present or future domicile or by virtue of any other cause.
  12. PERSONAL DATA : Your personal information will be used in accordance with Dacor, Inc.'s Privacy Policy and as otherwise set out in these Official Rules for the purpose of administering this Contest. By entering this Contest, you have expressly agreed to the use of your personal information for such purpose and by submitting an Entry into this Contest, you have expressly granted Sponsor certain rights to use your Contest Entry, including your personal information included therein, in Dacor Inc.'s marketing and promotion.
  13. WINNERS : All Winners (Regional, National and Student) will be featured on the Contest Site in October 2020. The National Grand prize winners will be officially announced at the Dacor Celebration Event in October 2020 and on the Contest Site following the official announcement.
  14. MISCELLANEOUS: The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision herein shall not affect in any way the validity and enforceability of any other provision in these Official Rules.
